The Eltham Chamber of Commerce and Industry was formed in 1961. The Chamber is the representative organisation for businesses in the area. Membership is open to Businesses and Professions operating in the 3095 postcode.
The Eltham Chamber of Commerce and Industry represents approximately 200 businesses who are either direct members or contributors to the town centre special rate scheme.
The Chamber takes a lead role in representing the interests of local business. We have regular dialogue with local council and other levels of government. Council representatives attend our monthly committee meetings.
The Chamber owns and operates the “elthamtown” website. The site offers free listings for local business and is a well used community resource. As well as a business directory, the site provides a community calendar, a directory of community organisations and information on local events and festivals. This includes being the exclusive publisher of information on the Rotary Eltham Town Festival and the Eltham Town Jazz & Blues Heritage Festival.
Networking Opportunities
The Chamber promotes a variety of networking opportunities including business breakfasts with top speakers and social opportunities such as our annual Gala Dinner.
Eltham Town Community News
The Chamber publishes The Eltham Town Community News three times a year. This quality publication is distributed to 23,000 households as well as though various community outlets. Eltham Town Community News serves as a conduit between business and the community. The publication allows us to promote the interests of our members as well as supporting community groups to publicise their messages and achievements.
Eltham Town Jazz & Blues Heritage Festival
The Eltham Town Jazz & Blues Heritage Festival is now in its tenth year. The Festival was started by the Chamber and follows on the rich local tradition of the arts in the Eltham area. Held on the Australia Day weekend in January; the Festival showcase a wide range of quality performances across three main venues. While the Chamber remains the major financier of the Festival, it now also benefits from substantial support through government grants and business sponsorship. Admission is free.
Town Centre Business Development Committee
In 1995 The Chamber initiated the introduction of a special rate scheme for the Town Centre. Our Town Centre Business Development Committee manages the marketing programs funded by the special rate. Programs supported by the committee include: employment of a part-time Centre Coordinator, Sponsorship of the Jazz Festival, the Town Centre activities of the Rotary Eltham Town Festival, other regular entertainment and activities in the town, The Eltham Town Community Card, Graffiti removal, joint advertising and branding projects, street banners, production of the Centre Directory as well as other promotions such as “Auction Dollars” and the Eltham Town Twilight Christmas Fair.
