Council Elections 2008
Nillumbik Shire Council's next general election will be held on Saturday 29 November 2008 at which time seven councillor positions from the Shire's seven wards will be decided for a four-year term.
Interested in becoming a councillor? The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) will hold a Community and Candidate Information Session at the Nillumbik Shire Council Civic Centre, Civic Drive, Greensborough, on Monday 18 August from 7pm-9pm to provide information for prospective candidates.
Candidate nominations will open on Thursday 23 October and close on Tuesday 28 October 2008. Candidates must submit a completed nomination form together with a nomination deposit of $250 to the Returning Officer appointed to run the election.
The MAV has some excellent resources for potential candidates which provide useful information on the roles and responsibilities of councillors and local government. It has launched a dedicated website where candidates can check their eligibility to stand for council and find about more about the day-to-day activities of a councillor. The Australian Local Government Women's Association (ALGWA) will conduct a Candidate Information Workshop for potential women candidates at the Civic Centre, Civic Drive, Greensborough, on Saturday 19 July from 10.30am to 12noon. Topics to be covered will include the role of councillors, the nomination process and effective campaigning, followed by a light lunch.
