Blacksmith Demonstration
Our incredible local blacksmiths forging leaves for a steel gumtree are trully heartwarming and inspiring. Blacksmiths across Australia
and around the world have been forging leaves
for this tree and sending them to Victoria. Working the steel from slabs into finely marked Australian gumleaves, these Blacksmiths have brought the words 'compassion, dedication and spirit' back into the community.
The tree, when complete, will stand in Strathewen in rememberance of the people who lost their lives in the 7 Feb bushfires, to honour the tireless people who defended others
and to stand as a symbol of regeneration for the community.
Nillumbik Shire Mayor Bo Bendtsen (second from right) and Chamber of Commerce President – Cr Chris Chapple (middle) were shown how the steel is being forged into this magnificent memorial tree.
